About the Role
The Senior Export Compliance Manager holds a strategically important position within a highly regulated, international environment. The role is responsible for ensuring full compliance with national, European, and US export control regulations while enabling complex international space projects to be executed efficiently and securely. Acting as a central interface between engineering, project management, legal, and management teams, this position translates regulatory requirements into practical, operational processes and proactively manages export control risks across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Execution and coordination of national and international export control activities, including preliminary requests, individual export licenses, and collective export licenses
- Identification of export control training needs and contribution to internal training initiatives
- Responsibility for implementing and monitoring legal and internal export control requirements across the group
- Analysis of internal workflows with regard to national and international export control regulations and integration of requirements into operational processes in cooperation with local process owners
- Creation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of procedures, guidelines, and manuals
- Export classification of goods and documentation in accordance with German, EU, and US regulations in close collaboration with technical and business departments
- Preparation of End User Statements and related documentation
- Definition of export control requirements for project and functional departments
- Review of contracts with regard to export control aspects in cooperation with legal and contract management teams
- Foreign trade law assessment of licensing obligations for technology transfers, exports and intra-community transfers of goods, and services
- Proactive identification, assessment, and management of export control risks
Your Profile
- Completed university degree in engineering or a comparable technical discipline
- Several years of professional experience in export control, ideally in aerospace, defense, or other highly regulated industries
- Solid experience with US export control regulations (e.g. ITAR / EAR)
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in cross-functional and international teams
- Proven capability to translate complex regulatory frameworks into practical operational processes
- Experience in analyzing existing processes and developing compliance and efficiency improvements
- Fluent German and English, both written and spoken
