About the Role
As a Supplier Quality Engineer (Electronics), you will be responsible for ensuring that critical electronic components and assemblies supplied by external manufacturing partners meet demanding quality, reliability, and manufacturing standards.
You will manage supplier quality activities across the full lifecycle, from supplier selection and qualification to performance management, issue resolution, and continuous improvement.
Working closely with Supply Chain, Engineering, AIT, Quality, and external suppliers, you will address quality issues, manage supplier risks, and help improve the manufacturability and reliability of mission-critical electronic hardware.
This role is particularly suited to engineers with experience in high-reliability electronics manufacturing, including aerospace, defence, automotive, medical devices, or other demanding manufacturing environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead supplier preselection, qualification, and audit activities to assess manufacturing capability, quality maturity, and compliance.
- Define and communicate technical and quality requirements to electronics suppliers and manufacturing partners.
- Monitor supplier performance across quality, delivery, and responsiveness metrics and drive improvement actions.
- Lead supplier part and process qualification activities before production release.
- Manage supplier change requests, part/process approvals, and configuration control together with Engineering and Configuration Management.
- Identify and proactively mitigate supplier-related quality and manufacturing risks.
- Collaborate with Design and AIT Engineering teams to improve the manufacturability and inspectability of electronic assemblies.
- Act as the main quality contact for supplier-related non-conformances, deviations, and waivers.
- Lead structured root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA) with suppliers.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across the external manufacturing supply chain.
Requirements
Required
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Strong experience in supplier quality management for electronics, including supplier audits, qualification, and performance management.
- Strong understanding of electronics manufacturing processes, particularly PCB/PCBA manufacturing, cable and harness assembly, and inspection methodologies.
- Experience with high-reliability or harsh-environment electronic products.
- Experience managing non-conformances, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and preventive actions.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, PCB layouts, Bills of Materials (BOM), and technical specifications.
- Understanding of traceability, configuration control, and engineering change management for complex hardware.
- Strong analytical and structured problem-solving skills.
- Ability to effectively manage suppliers and influence stakeholders without direct authority.
- Proactive, hands-on working style with a high level of ownership.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Ability to travel approximately once per month to supplier locations.
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with IPC-A-610 Class 3, IPC/WHMA-A-620 Class 3, J-STD-001, or ECSS standards.
- Experience working with ERP systems in manufacturing or production environments.
- Experience in aerospace, defence, automotive, medical devices, electronics, or other high-reliability manufacturing industries.
- Experience working with contract manufacturers or electronics manufacturing services (EMS) providers.
